Apprenticeship Insight: Level 3 Team Leader

It’s National Apprenticeship Week from 5th to 11th February 2024. Apprenticeships help shape successful careers and support healthcare businesses across the UK. At Safehands, we are passionate about the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities we provide that allow our individuals to grow.

To celebrate the week, we spoke with our star Telford Branch Manager Faye Brain, who is currently completing her Level 3 Team Leader training.

 How long have you worked at Safehands?

“I started in January 2018, so just over 6 years.”

What is your job title?

“I am the Branch Manager here in Telford.”

What apprenticeship are you doing?

“I am completing a Level 3 Team Leader qualification.” 

When do you complete it?

“It is 12 months long and I am currently half way through.”

What does the apprenticeship include?

“I am learning about leading and managing a team, how to build relationships and communicate effectively. I am also learning about operational and project management, finances, self awareness and self management and decision making. My course includes weekly objectives that I have to learn and complete and provide evidence for an end of month assessment. Learning is via an online platform which I log into.”

How do you fit it in around work?

“I have to complete the course whilst I am working, so fitting it in alongside a busy week can be difficult! It will be very rewarding once I have completed it.”

How is your course benefitting your role at Safehands?

“Everything I have learnt so far has been really relevant to my day-to-day role and I have been able to implement what I have learnt. The area I have most enjoyed is learning about management styles and I have grown more confident in using them and helping get the best out of our team.”

Can you tell me about a typical day at work for you?

“A day in the office for Safehands is extremely fast-paced. We have a lot going on in terms of active staff compliance and shift bookings coming through by phone and email. We will also make business development calls during the day and attend client meetings. It is a master act of juggling each day and time management is key within this role. 

Helping others alongside ticking off my own to do list can be challenging, but I love the adrenaline I get when it is busy and managing the workload.”

What do you like about Safehands?

“They are a very inclusive company and everyone is there to help one another. We feel like a close knit family business. I have access to any support that I need as well as a lot of industry knowledge from others who have been in the business for a long time.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 year’s time?

“I’d love to be furthering myself with my skillset and knowledge within the business and continuing to help others progress.”

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

“Go for it. Any development furthers your ability in your career and learning is fun when you enjoy the job you are in.”
